WHICH APPLICATION SHOULD I USE TO APPLY TO TEXAS A&M?
If you meet eligibility under Texas House Bill 1403 (77R) or Texas Senate Bill 1528 (79R), complete the Domestic admissions application.
All other undocumented applicants should apply using the International admissions application.
In Texas, undocumented immigrants with and without Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) are by law able to apply and be admitted to all public colleges and universities. Two bills expand access to in-state tuition rates and state financial aid to all undocumented college students in Texas who meet the bills’ eligibility criteria:
Even if you're not applying to Texas A&M, we know that applying to college as an undocumented student can be an overwhelming endeavor. You can check the website below for online resources and information for undocumented high school and college students, both with and without DACA. The purpose of the guide is to help you make informed decisions about your futures and acquire the tools you need to advocate for themselves at the high school and college levels.
Residency for Tuition Purposes
Even if undocumented students pay in-state tuition rates, each public college or university has the right to consider and categorize the student as an international or domestic student in their system. At Texas A&M University, undocumented students with and without DACA are classified as international students in the university system because all students who are not a U.S. Citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident are considered international students. More information about international student fees can be found here.
The Office of the Registrar provides information on how undocumented students with and without DACA can establish Texas residency. Per Texas Senate Bill 1528 (79R), undocumented students must file a notarized affidavit form as part of their admissions process, in addition to other necessary documentation (e.g., Texas high school transcripts).
The affidavit form must only be filed at the time of enrollment. The Texas A&M University’s affidavit form can be found here. Any questions about this process may be directed to 979-845-1085 or residency@tamu.edu.
To notarize the affidavit form, admitted undocumented students:
- Must show any form of photo identification (e.g., passport from country of nationality, state driver license) to confirm their identity.
- Get notarized at any bank for a small fee OR make an appointment with the Office of the Registrar for free.
Upon completion and notarization, this affidavit should be uploaded into the Applicant Portal to be included with other admissions documents.
ISSS PROCEDURES
Any Texas A&M University student who is not a U.S. Citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident is considered an international student.
All international students must check-in with ISSS.
All international students must check-in with ISSS.
Most likely, your visa type will be defaulted to F-1 status in the student information system. Please note that this visa type is used by multiple offices at Texas A&M for tuition residency, tax compliance, health insurance, and more. To get your status updated with the university, you need to submit an Other Student Check-In. ISSS will also remove any holds from our office when processing the check-in.
