BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, June 28, 2024 – Dr. Evan Haefeli, a history professor at Texas A&M University, has received a Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program award in American history for the 2024-25 academic year. Haefeli will teach American history courses at three separate universities in Tokyo: Tokyo University, Ochanomizu University, and Kyoritsu Women’s University.

“The Department of History is delighted that Dr. Evan Haefeli was selected to participate in the prestigious Fulbright program. That he was chosen for this competitive fellowship demonstrates his prominence within the discipline, as well as his expertise in the field of American history,” said Angela Pulley Hudson, history professor and department head.  “Dr. Haefeli’s engagement abroad will not only benefit the students he teaches at the University of Tokyo, Ochanomizu University and Kyoritsu Women’s University, but also promises to build research and exchange relationships to last many years.”

Fulbright U.S. Scholars are faculty, researchers, administrators and established professionals teaching or conducting research in affiliation with institutes abroad. Fulbright Scholars engage in research and expand their professional networks, often continuing research collaborations started abroad and laying the groundwork for forging future partnerships between institutions. More than 800 individuals teach or conduct research abroad through the Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program annually.

Since 1946, the Fulbright Program has provided over 400,000 talented and accomplished students, scholars, teachers, artists and professionals of all backgrounds with the opportunity to study, teach and conduct research abroad. Fulbrighters exchange ideas, build people-to-people connections and work to address complex global challenges.
